#1046 closed System Defect (worksforme)

KDE not started after last upgrade (16 feb 2014)

Reported by: WCSN Owned by: kris
Priority: major Milestone:
Component: Package Manager Version: 10.0-RELEASE
Keywords: pkg update Cc: trac-bugs@…

How restore work KDE:

  1. Copy all from /usr/local/kde4/* to /usr/local/
  2. Correct into /usr/local/startkde (and correct link startkde4 -> ./startkde) - replace "local/kde4" to "local"
  3. Correct into /usr/local/etc/rc.d/kdm4 how p.3.

After that KDE is loaded and running normally.
Restored and work kdm4.

I do not understand why returned separate directory for kde4? Maybe so right? But upgrade makes a workable KDE unworkable ...

It almost sounds like you have an old KDE setting which is causing problems.
You should not need to move around the kde4/* files or binaries since that it where the package installs them (so you are going to be unable to upgrade your KDE in the future since it is now modified outside the pkg registration system).

I have been testing out KDE on my system here and it works fine both before and after upgrades. if you remove your ~/.kde4 settings directory (or just rename it to ~/.kde4.old) and then login to KDE (using startkde4) it should re-create your user settings properly.
