#109 closed Feature Request (wontfix)

Disable Hardware acceleration for nvidia legacy driver 71xx

Reported by: pheet Owned by:
Priority: major Milestone: 7.0
Component: XOrg Configurator Version: 1.4.1
Keywords: nvidia xorg legacy hardware driver Cc:

When the nvidia-driver-71xx legacy driver is chosen, hardware acceleration should be disabled by default by adding

Option "RenderAccel" "False"

in the Device section of the generated xorg.conf file.

The reason being is that this driver is poor quality and buggy, and on three cards I've tested (TNT2 Pro, geforce 2 Ti , geforce 2 MX 400) having the acceleration enabled caused complete system crashes at random points.

Given also that this driver is for old graphics cards, it may be considered that the composite extension is disabled by default also when this driver is chosen.

I'd prefer to not disable HW accell for any of the nvidia drivers, since thats really the whole point to using one of them. Otherwise the "nv" driver is a good choice. I'll mark this as wont-fix for now, unless we can prove that HW accell doesn't work with any of the older cards.
