#1117 closed System Defect (fixed)

USB keyboard hot swapping issues

Reported by: bridger Owned by: kris
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: System Configuration Version: 10.1-RELEASE
Keywords: USB keyboard Cc: trac-bugs@…

Hi all,

I don't know if this is a devd issue; if so, I'll be happy to forward this issue to that group. My issue is this: if I use a USB keyboard on my PC-BSD* laptop, my integrated keyboard dies after disconnecting the USB keyboard. If I reconnect the USB keyboard, the integrated keyboard comes back.

I do not have the same problem with USB mice; i.e. removing a USB mouse does not impact the functionality of the trackpoint/mousepad.

Thanks for your time and trouble. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information to help correct this.

Apologies - it looks like I accidentally selected the wrong version during the submission process.

This appears to be a bug with Xorg upstream. The workaround is to add...

Option "AutoAddDevices?" "False" Section "ServerLayout?" of /etc/X11/xorg.conf and restart the Xorg server.

Bridger, can you confirm the fix / workaround that sfr21c posted? It sounds like that may be the solution until the bug is fixed in X. I'm going to close this for now, but if that isn't the solution for you, please let us know.

I've been using srf21c's suggested fix since it was mentioned with no (obvious) ill effects. Please close this ticket. Thanks!
