Hi, this is Trac related: I meant to close off ticket #20 with this reply to Kris (thanks!), but Trac will not let me go to:

The comment was in regards to the default nvidia crash ticket #20:

Replying to kris:

Actually if its failing on the default load, then its the "nv" driver which is causing problems. We're running the latest version of "nv", 2.1.3, but apparently they need to fix it for your particular card:

Thanks for the tip. I had elected to use the latest nVidia binary (nicely included), which works flawlessly. I'll admit I've never played with beryl/compiz before but the 3d desktop is nice. I dunno if the reverse engineered open-source driver is interesting to me. I'm not looking to run OpenBSD here. ;-)

I may see if we can make it more clear though, so users know that instead of just an "Emergency Console" it also provides a "VESA" mode.

Sure. All I'm suggesting is that "Emergency Console" may have the wrong connotation, perhaps "Emergency Fail-safe Menu" or even "Troubleshooting Options", and then include a another text submenu in emergency with some quick tips (e.g. "5. Last Resort: PC-BSD Installation FAQ/howto").

Some other new users may not have multiple computers available to get online and check into things while they are installing. Any text made available for quick tips/guides while your machine is tied up with the install CD is a bonus, imho. Thanks again!

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

Thanks, due to an incompatibility with using PostgreSQL.

For future reference, the fix is here:
