Description

System Updater updates nvidia driver, reboot and choose 7 at boot menu to start Display Setup Wizard
Display Setup Wizard crashes when applying the config after "Preparing to start the Desktop" leaving a dirty filesystem and a 0-byte /etc/ttys i.e. in an unusable state :(
Recovered /etc/ttys, configured nvidia-173.14.20 ok, installed nvidia 195.22 from the FreeBSD ports ok
Running Display Setup Wizard again with nvidia-195.36.15 again results in a crash

x86 System with GeForce? 6200 Graphics Card

This driver is obsolete now, replaced by the 256.35 driver. Give that one a shot and see if it fixes your issue in 8.1.
