590	Blank screen after selection of ATI video driver.	tbj	joshms	"I'm listing this as an installation problem because the system can't recover from an incorrect video selection, and because the boot options for trying to activate the VESA driver on startup don't work.

I've tried re-installing PC-BSD a few times, but can't get past selecting the video card after reboot. No matter what resolution or card I select, I have the same problem.

PC-BSD installs fine. It starts out fine. Right away, it comes up and it asks you to select a video driver. It thinks I have an ATI 4500 HD series card. I've picked a resolution I know I’ve used on Windows with it, then later just tried 1024x768. I click OK. It tells me, ""If you don’t see anything for a few seconds, I’ll switch back to the old settings automatically.

And then the screen goes blank.

And then the screen stays blank.

Five minutes later, I reboot the computer.

And the screen boots up blank. I don't press any keys or click any mouse buttons, but the screen never comes back.

Okay, I think. I’ll just boot it with the VESA driver, which is an option in the boot menu, and fix the display settings.

Only, it won’t boot to the VESA driver. I toggle it on, I toggle on safe mode. I try all sorts of toggles over and over again, but every single time, it tries to boot with the normal settings, and I boot to a blank screen.

The video card has both an HDMI port and VGA port. My monitor is plugged into the VGA port.
