#642 closed System Defect (fixed)

Xorg, GDM keyboard layout

Reported by: Boug Owned by: kris
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: System Configuration Version: 9.0-RELEASE
Keywords: keyboard layout azerty Cc: trac-bugs@…

Description

I chose the French standard keyboard layout during the installation, and yet, the GDM login screen is still with the US keyboard layout : embarrassing for typing my user password wich contains the "w" letter -> I'm obliged to type "z" instead, because the keyboard is in QWERTY instead of AZERTY.

But the Unix CLI mode is in AZERTY, so no problem with the CLI.

It's OKAY finally! The only thing to do to put the keyboard layout and all the Desktop Environments (GNOME, KDE, LXDE & Xfce...) in French is to simply select langage -> French and keyboard -> French (for other languages it is exactly the same) AFTER having pressed ENTER for typing your login password in GDM.

The locale and layouts lists appear only after having pressed Enter or having selected your user account.

So, it's Okay. The US keyboard layout and English locale were first selected for me because I had to choose the English language during the installation (bug #641 - solved in PC-BSD 9.1).
