Description
Fresh install results in no sound ... speakers or headphones. Tried various sources including a straight-up mp3 file in kplayer.
Hardware compatibility diagnostic on graphical installer showed:
Detected hardware devices:
Video driver: (intel)
Video resolution: (1366x768)
Ethernet device: (em0)
Wifi device: (iwn0)
Sound device: (pcm4)
Live Ubuntu 12.04 LTS shows that hardware is working correctly.
My machine: Lenovo T420, 4GB RAM, 1TB hard drive.
Not sure of what component to assign to ... so used Misc.

Wanted to update that I've experimented with RC2 settings in PC-BSD Control Panel and got the sound to work. The setting for sound chosen by install was *wrong* ... when I set it to pcm0 the sound started to work. I'm not sure how to close this ticket ... or change the title to 'solved' ... nevertheless the team might want to look over the installation choice for this. It chose "pcm4: <Intel Cougar Point (HDMI/DP 8ch)> (play)" and perhaps should have chosen "pcm0: <Conexant CX20590 (Analog)> (play/rec) default" ... since that is what made it work. Cheers!

RC3 install appears to have selected the proper audio driver for the T420.

- Resolution set to fixed
- Status changed from new to closed
Thanks for the update!

Just wanted to add that I had a similar problem with sound with this release candidate on my Acer Aspire One netbook. However I loaded the 9.0 release and the sound is functioning correctly.
