non-root user not created during install

Reported by: mark Owned by: kris
Priority: major Milestone:
Component: Installer Version: 9.2-RELEASE
Keywords: non-root user creation Cc: trac-bugs@…

Maybe i'm doing something wrong each time, but I've installed 3 times and each time the installation finishes, the non-root user I created doesn't show up after the reboot. I've been using 'adduser' each time, then restarting X or rebooting. Since this is a potential security issue, thought I'd bring it up.

My ISO is 7-10 days old.

System: Athlon X4 - 6GB RAM

uname -a:
FreeBSD pcbsd-3729 9-STABLE-p5 FreeBSD 9-STABLE-p5 #0: Tue Jul 30 16:02:30 UTC 2013 root@…:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64

You are doing a desktop install, correct? At first boot its supposed to be running a "First time setup" wizard, which lets you set a user / password, along with root PW. Do you never get to that screen?

Yes. I get to the user creation screen and it appears to work properly. I also set the root password (which works). The install appears to progress normally to completion, but upon reboot, the non-root user doesn't appear to have been created.

If you would like me to test again with certain parameters, let me know. I'm not married to this particular install.

If your image is 7-10 days old i'd recommend trying the latest. We had a new image come out on the 16th that saw some stability improvements. I went ahead and spun up a couple of vm's and I can't duplicate the issue on either :(.

Best Regards,

Closed due to inactivity. I haven't been able to duplicate the issue yet, but perhaps it's an intermittent bug. Please re-open if you are still having problems and we will try our best to help.
