It looks like someone from FreeBSD developed a patch for Skype to get version 4.0.0.8 working. As you've found out the older version that is included in appcafe is quite dated and is not the most compatible piece of software we've ever seen. The new patched version hasn't hit ports yet and requires some adjustments to the kernel so we won't be able to implement it any time soon. We will be looking to see if this hits ports so we can roll out a new PBI hopefully around PC-BSD 10.0. I apologize for the inconvenience. For now this ticket will be deferred for a while.

Thanks!

-Josh
