Nvidia drivers will not install correctly from ports/meta package manager/ or tar.gz file from nvidia's website site.

from ports and nvidia's tar.gz it gives this error in the Terminal Interface, even though I have downloaded the source directly from the FreeBSD SVN, and the needed file is present in the directory it is calling for, ( /usr/share/mk/bsd.kmod.mk )

[jdx@qax1168] /usr/home/jdx/Downloads/NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86-331.20# make install
===> src (install)
make[1]: "/usr/share/mk/bsd.kmod.mk" line 12: Unable to locate the kernel source tree. Set SYSDIR to override.
* Error code 1

make: stopped in /usr/home/jdx/Downloads/NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86-331.20

Error is same for both ports and nvidia's tar.gz

Meta-package installs decently enough to provide a desktop screen , but nothing else.

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed
  • Version changed from 9.0-RELEASE to 10-STABLE

It looks like you are trying to install x86 drivers. 10.0 is 64 bit. Secondly Nvidia drivers are already included in the base system of PC-BSD. If for some reason they weren't selected during install you may just want to add them using the package manager in control panel.

There was an issue with the Nvidia driver missing some libraries. If you are experiencing that issue follow Kris' instructions to your email on the testing list by doing the following:

# fetch -o /usr/local/sbin/pbi_info
# chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/pbi_info
# /usr/local/etc/rc.d/pbid restart
