#946 closed System Defect (3rdpartybug)

System hangs at the point of reboot point install

Reported by: javaboyuk Owned by: kris
Priority: major Milestone:
Component: Installer Version: 10.0-RELEASE
Keywords: reboot X11 Cc: trac-bugs@…

Description

I have:
Motherboard - ASUS Z87-WS
CPU - Core i5-4670T
Monitor - is linked via the HDMI cable.
(load of SATA drives)

I use the CPU GPU (ie i do NOT have a discreet GPU installed)

I install off a USB image: PCBSD10.0-RELEASE-p3-01-13-2014-x64-DVD-USB

All seems to go well until the reboot when it seems to hang with a blank screen. I leave it for ages and perform a reset. It boots up ok!

Then if I now login, perform a system update get all packages updated. Reboot again same issue seems to hang with a blank screen. Wait a long time (10 mins) in case its applying patches and hit reset. It boots again ok... then and I think here is the hint, if I logout of the "GUI" (KDE) it seems to logout and I have a blank screen again, and it seems to have hung again, after a while I perform a reset. boot again ok, then issue a reboot in a terminal window seems to hang again with a blank screen.

Any suggestions?

My system does not shut down after install, using 10.0-RELEASE.

I have a similar setup, using 10.0-RELEASE. My system is an ASRock Z87E-ITX, http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87E-ITX/, and and Intel Intel Core i7 4770K, http://ark.intel.com/products/75123/. I don't have a discrete GPU, but uses the integrated graphics via DVI.

  • Resolution set to 3rdpartybug
  • Status changed from new to closed

These are both Intel video chipsets it sounds like. There has been some work on updating these drivers in the upcoming 10.0.2 for June, but I cannot be certian it is completely fixed.

If it still fails post 10.0.2, you may need to report a bug upstream with the FreeBSD xorg maintainers.
