#957 closed System Defect (fixed)

PC-BSD 10 - AppCafe Empty

Reported by: ray-81 Owned by: ken
Priority: major Milestone:
Component: System Configuration Version: 10.0-RELEASE
Keywords: AppCafe Empty Cc: trac-bugs@…

Description

My newly-installed PC-BSD 10 (from a disk made from the .iso) installed OK,
but when I went into AppCafe? for some programs, it's totally empty.
The Updates Manager says everything is up to date!

So where do I get programs?

I should add that I've downloaded the System sources and Ports list.
That didn't solve the problem.

I had been using the 9.2 version, and its AppCafe? had all 1169 programs available.

When did you download the release image? Is it one of our beta images or is it the official release with an upload date of the 28th? The reason I ask is there was an ABI change after RC4 in FreeBSD base which requires you to be on the latest Version of 10.0 Release otherwise PBI's in the appcafe won't work properly. Are packages 100% up to date in the package manager?

Also, try this:

# pbid --refresh
# cat /var/log/pbid.log

Anything of interest in there?

I can't report on troubleshooting your suggestions, because when the upgrade notice arrived, I was using PC-BSD 9.2, and the upgrade procedure ran for about 20 minutes, and then reported "failure". I tried a reboot, and for the next hour or so the program was
mostly removed and then it also attempted to re-install itself again, but when that completed, and I tried to boot up, it wouldn't display the start-up screen. The only way I could correct that was to re-install the 9.2, which I knew would work correctly. I am now back on the 9.2, and so I can't attempt troubleshooting on the new one.
You asked if I had downloaded a beta. Not unless that's what was on your main website Wednesday afternoon about 4:00 p.m. - it said it was a normal release, 3.6 Gb for DVD and USB, x64. The date was 29-01-2014.

Good News! I again downloaded the .iso, and this time after creating the disk
and installing it, everything works just as it should.
So we can close this, with my thanks. Now that I've used the version 10 for a while,
I have to say it looks just fine. Again, thank you to everyone involved.

P.S. -
PC-BSD 10 installs faster than Windows 8, and it reboots quicker too.
