xdg-open script is not ready for Gnome 3?

Seems like xdg-open script is buggy on Gnome 3.

Look at this scenario (under gnome 3 terminal):
% xdg-open /usr/local/share/pcbsd/pc-controlpanel/items/hardware/gnome-power-statistics.desktop

(xfce4-panel:10782): GLib-WARNING : (gerror.c:390):g_error_new_valist: runtime check failed: (domain != 0)

xdg-open is failed to start application, but file manager can.

yurkis did you want me to assign this ticket to you? I think Ken has also done some work with xdg-open.

This is a known limitation in GNOME3.
The "gvfs-open" utility in GNOME does not recognize that *.desktop files are special application launchers (basically). With GNOME2 we used to run "gnome-open" instead, and that seemed to work fine, but that utility was removed in GNOME3.

Here is a link to the GNOME bug report for this[1]. It was initially opened in 2006 for both gnome-open and gvfs-open, then was re-invigorated in 2009 with the move to gvfs-open as the primary "launcher" for GNOME. It has still not been fixed to this day, even though there is a patch attached to the bug report (not sure how well the patch works).

I love Gnome 3 :) I've just created ticket related to my code: https://trac.pcbsd.org/ticket/999 I already have workaround for this in control panel (names 'not xdg desktop'- in that case intnal launcher code is is use). I will commit that in few days.

Looks like you found a workaround for this Yurkis. If I misunderstood please re-open this ticket.
